I love Mario’s fig varieties because he tested many and kept only his favorites; one lesser-known variety is Abourkounis Mario #353, a purplish-brown to almost black fig with a light red interior, weighing 27g, that dries well on the tree and offers a complex, sweet honey-like taste with hints of peach and a nutty, chewy skin, similar to an exceptional dried fig. This is a variety my young fig testers thoroughly enjoy!
