I'm excited to taste my first Madeira Island Black (MIB) and compare it to Black Madeira (BM) and Figo Preto. MIB, a variety from Portugal introduced by Keith K, is reportedly more vigorous and a better producer than BM. My very ripe 35g MIB is a beautiful powder-black fig with a flatter bottom and small closed eye, starting to show wrinkles. The syrup-dripping red pulp is moderately sweet with complex, sophisticated berry flavors. While it's an excellent fig, I personally prefer Figo Preto and BM for their better balanced sweetness and hint of tartness. Figo Preto is also more productive and vigorous than MIB in my environment. #MadeiraIslandBlack
